Understanding how diet influences the effectiveness of asthma medications

Understanding how diet influences the effectiveness of asthma medications

This project will assess the impact of diet and obesity on the effectiveness of asthma medications. We will determine which foods should be avoided by asthmatics and which bronchodilator drugs are most suitable for obese asthmatics (particularly for those wanting to exercise to lose weight). We will also identify mechanisms to provide new treatment options for managing obese asthma. This will inform asthma management guidelines for obese asthmatics.

The grant will run over four years and is a result of a collaboration between the University of Newcastle and Woolcock Researchers. Investigators are as follows:
CIA Lisa Wood (University of Newcastle)
CIB Brian Oliver (Woolcock & UTS, Sydney)
